Visiting the trendy upscale neighborhood of Buckhead, or driving to downtown Atlanta, isn’t too far when you live in Smyrna. Even Hartsfield Jackson Airport is just a 30-minute drive during off-peak hours. Residents without vehicles can utilize the The Cobb Community Transit (CCT) bus system link up with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rapid-rail network.
History
Pioneers began settling in the Smyrna area in 1832. After the completion of the Western and Atlantic Railroad in 1842, the area began to grow. Lockheed opened in 1951 and the population boomed for the next 20 years.

- Thy official symbol of Smyrna is the jonquil, a flower. This name is derived from the thousands of jonquils flourishing the streets in early spring each year.
- Smyrna sits at an altitude of about 1,150 feet above sea level.
- Two Civil War battles occurred in the area, the Battle of Smyrna Camp Ground on July 3, 1864 and the Battle of Ruff’s Mill the next day.
- Smyrna made history when it elected a woman mayor, Lorena Pace Pruitt, in 1946.
